Description

580°C Infrared Thermometer (HTC – MTX-2)

The HTC MTX-2 580°C Infrared Thermometer is a versatile, non-contact temperature measuring instrument designed for fast and convenient surface temperature measurement across a wide range of industrial, commercial, maintenance, automotive, HVAC and general-purpose applications. With a temperature measurement range of -50°C to 580°C (-58°F to 1076°F), adjustable emissivity, a 13:1 distance-to-spot ratio, circular laser targeting and a colour LCD display, this infrared thermometer provides a practical solution for users who need to measure temperatures without physically touching the object being tested.

Non-contact infrared temperature measurement is especially useful when the surface is hot, difficult to reach, moving, electrically energized, or unsuitable for contact measurement. The HTC MTX-2 allows the user to point the instrument towards the target area and obtain a temperature reading quickly, making routine inspections and troubleshooting more efficient.

The meter is suitable for maintenance technicians, engineers, electricians, HVAC professionals, automotive technicians, industrial users and other professionals requiring a portable temperature measurement instrument.

Wide Temperature Measurement Range

The HTC MTX-2 offers a broad temperature range of -50°C to 580°C (-58°F to 1076°F). This makes the instrument suitable for measuring both relatively low and high surface temperatures within its specified operating range.

The wide measurement capability allows users to apply the thermometer to different inspection and maintenance requirements, including checking heating equipment, machinery surfaces, electrical components, motors, bearings, pipes, process equipment, HVAC systems and other suitable targets.

As with all infrared thermometers, the reading represents the temperature of the target surface being measured and can be influenced by factors such as surface material, emissivity, distance, target size and surrounding conditions.

13:1 Distance-to-Spot Ratio

The instrument features a 13:1 distance-to-spot ratio, an important consideration when measuring temperature from a distance. This ratio describes the relationship between the distance of the instrument from the target and the approximate diameter of the measurement area.

For example, as the distance between the thermometer and the target increases, the measurement spot also becomes larger. For accurate measurement of a smaller target, the user should move closer while ensuring that the complete measurement spot remains within the target surface.

The 13:1 ratio makes the MTX-2 suitable for taking non-contact temperature measurements at a practical working distance while helping users target the appropriate measurement area.

Adjustable Emissivity

The HTC MTX-2 includes adjustable emissivity from 0.1 to 1.0. Emissivity is an important factor in infrared temperature measurement because different materials and surfaces emit infrared energy differently.

The ability to adjust emissivity gives users greater flexibility when measuring different types of surfaces. Proper emissivity selection can help improve measurement suitability for the material being tested.

Users should select an appropriate emissivity value based on the target material and measurement application. Highly reflective or shiny surfaces may require particular attention because infrared measurements on such surfaces can be affected by reflected thermal energy.

Circular Laser Targeting

The MTX-2 is equipped with a circular laser targeting feature. This helps users identify the approximate target area during measurement and can make it easier to position the thermometer correctly.

Laser targeting is useful when measuring specific points on machinery, pipes, electrical equipment, heating surfaces or other equipment. It assists the user in directing the instrument towards the intended measurement area, particularly when taking measurements from a distance.

Appropriate precautions should always be followed when using laser-equipped instruments. The laser should never be directed towards eyes.

Colour LCD Display

The instrument features a colour LCD display designed to provide clear viewing of temperature readings and operating information. A clear display can improve convenience during routine inspection and maintenance activities.

The display also includes an LCD alarm indicator, providing visual indication when applicable alarm conditions are activated according to the instrument’s settings and operating mode.

The temperature reading is displayed with a resolution of 0.1°C or 0.1°F, enabling users to observe temperature changes in fine measurement increments.

°C and °F Selection

The HTC MTX-2 provides convenient selection between degrees Celsius (°C) and degrees Fahrenheit (°F). This flexibility allows users to work in the temperature unit most suitable for their application, documentation or operating preference.

The Celsius scale is commonly used in industrial and technical applications, while Fahrenheit may be preferred in some international specifications or equipment documentation.

Accuracy and Resolution

The MTX-2 provides a temperature resolution of 0.1°C / 0.1°F.

According to the supplied specifications, accuracy is:

  • -50°C to 0°C (-58°F to 32°F): ±4°C / ±7.2°F
  • 0°C to 550°C (32°F to 1022°F): ±2% of reading or ±2°C / ±3.6°F, as applicable

Measurement accuracy can depend on correct instrument use and suitable measurement conditions. Factors such as emissivity, surface characteristics, measurement distance and environmental conditions should be considered when evaluating results.

Auto Power Off

The Auto Power Off (APO) function helps conserve battery power by automatically switching the instrument off after a period of non-use. This is useful for a portable handheld instrument used during inspections and fieldwork.

The MTX-2 is powered by one 9V battery (6F22), making battery replacement straightforward when required.

Compact and Portable Design

With dimensions of approximately 155(H) × 99(W) × 28(D) mm, the HTC MTX-2 is designed for convenient handheld operation. Its compact form makes it suitable for carrying during inspections, maintenance work and field service.

The instrument is supplied with a soft carrying case and user manual, helping users store, transport and operate the thermometer conveniently.
