Description

The HTC CE‑8200 series Clamp‑On Ground Resistance Testers—including models CE‑8200, CE‑8202, and CE‑8203—are engineered for fast, non-intrusive measurement of earth resistance and loop resistance in grounding systems, with optional leakage current detection. These tools are designed for utility, telecom, industrial, meteorological, and IT infrastructure applications, providing high-resolution measurements with minimal setup and superior safety.

At the heart of the CE‑8200 series is a 4-digit, 9,999‑count LCD display with a sleek black background, ensuring high readability even outdoors or under bright overhead lighting. The dynamic display operates at approximately 2 measurements per second, complemented by an internal analog bar graph for real-time fluctuation visualization and superior operator awareness. Equipped with auto power‑off (APO) and double-insulated construction, the instrument is safe, efficient, and ideal for extended fieldwork.

Different models offer various measurement ranges:

  • CE‑8200 measures ground resistance up to 1000 Ω,

  • CE‑8202 extends that range to 1200 Ω and also measures leakage current up to 20 mA,

  • CE‑8203 handles resistance ranges up to 200 Ω with greater resolution.

All models share key features such as:
A 55 mm × 32 mm clamp jaw aperture that enables quick loop resistance testing without disconnecting ground rods or cables. They employ microprocessor‑based mutual induction measurement technology that calculates earth resistance by measuring induced voltage and loop current simultaneously.

Resolution varies by range, from 0.001 Ω at low resistance through to 30 Ω resolution at maximum scale, paired with high-accuracy ratings across ranges:

  • ±(1% + 0.017 Ω) at 0.010–0.099 Ω

  • ±(1% + 0.1 Ω) at 1.0–49.9 Ω

  • ±(2% + 1 Ω) at 100–199 Ω

  • ±(5% + 5 Ω) at 200–395 Ω

  • ±(10–25%) at higher bands to 1200 Ω depending on model. These precision levels make the CE‑8200 series well-suited for detecting subtle changes in grounding integrity.

The CE‑8202 adds a leakage current measurement up to 20 mA, with resolutions of 0.01 mA and accuracy ±(2.5% + 1 mA), extending to 0.1 A resolution at higher scales. This is ideal for identifying insulation leakage or ground loop currents in active installations.

Engineered for robust field use, the CE‑8200 series features:

  • 300-group onboard data storage, enabling measurement logging and later retrieval in the field

  • Alarm threshold setting with audible and visual alerts if readings exceed pre-set limits

  • Self‑test ‘check rings’ (1 Ω and 10 Ω) for verifying instrument precision before measurement sessions

  • “NOISE” alarm to indicate electromagnetic interference that can affect accuracy

  • “OL Ω” symbol for over-range detection, preventing misinterpretation of out-of-range values

  • Low battery indicator displayed when supply drops below ~5 V, prompting timely replacement.

The instrument performs reliably in diverse environments: it operates accurately from –10 °C to +40 °C (≤80% RH), stores safely between –20 °C and +60 °C, and withstands insulation of over 20 MΩ, as well as voltage testing up to 3,700 V RMS between housing and circuit, providing exceptional durability in harsh jobsite conditions.

Designed for portability and ease of use, the CE‑8200 series measures approximately 285 × 85 × 58 mm, weighs around 290 g (excluding accessories), and is powered by four AA batteries (1.5 V each). Accessories included with each unit are a hard carrying case, test loop, check rings, batteries, and user manual. The rugged housing ensures dust-proof, shock-resistant, and moisture-resistant performance.

Key Applications:

This clamp-on ground resistance tester is ideal for fast and accurate safety and compliance testing without disrupting grounding installations. Applications include:

  • Telecommunication towers, datacenter grounding grids, meteorological masts, and power distribution systems

  • Lightning protection system inspection and preventive earth maintenance

  • Utility and industrial grounding system audits where downtime must be minimized

  • Maintenance of earthing in industrial plants, petrol stations, substations, rail or tower grounding

In summary, the HTC CE‑8200 / CE‑8202 / CE‑8203 series offers a no-hassle clamp-on measurement solution for earth resistance and leakage diagnostics. With high resolution, automated data logging, safety-enhancing alarms, double insulation, and clear readouts, it combines portable convenience with professional-grade precision. These models streamline testing protocols and are essential tools for electrical and infrastructure safety verification in modern installations.
